Scandic Hotels first to offer guests check-out by mobile phone at all hotels

June 13, 2013 | 08:00 CET | Categories: General press releases | Non regulatory

Scandic Hotels is the first hotel chain in the Nordic region to offer a digital solution for checking out at its hotels. In just a few quick steps guests can pay for their room and check out on their smartphone or computer – confirm the bill, receive an electronic receipt and drop the key off in reception on the way out. Scandic is currently piloting the new solution at Scandic Park in Stockholm, before rolling the service out at all Scandic hotels in the autumn.

This week Sweden’s national football team is staying at Scandic Park, so the players manager Marcus Allbäck is the first to try checking out by mobile.

“It’s so easy. When I stay at a hotel I want to spend my time on other things, like enjoying a leisurely breakfast, so having this option is perfect,” says Marcus Allbäck.
With just a few clicks, guests can view their bill and check out using their mobile phone. The receipt is emailed straight to their inbox and they can drop their keycard in a box at the reception desk.

“This is an important tool for improved convenience, making stays easier for our guests. Many people are familiar with similar solutions in other contexts, such as banking and airports. It feels only natural that we should offer the same facility at our hotels. We believe guests will appreciate being able to check out on their smartphone instead of standing in a queue in the morning,” comments Olle Söder, project manager at Scandic.

The hotel industry has so far taken a more traditional approach to this technology and no-one has taken the leap in offering the service at all their hotels. Scandic will now be the first hotel chain in the Nordic region to provide a simple and worry-free self-service option at all its hotels.

Supplier Ariane Systems
Scandic has chosen French company Ariane Systems as its supplier. Ariane focuses exclusively on self-service solutions for the hotel industry and has around 1500 installations in Europe. Together with Ariane, Scandic has reworked the service to ensure a better experience for users with a focus on fast mobile solutions.

As the Nordic region’s most sustainable hotel chain we’re always focused on the environment, social responsibility and accessibility. With around 160 hotels in eight countries, 30,000 hotel rooms and a turnover of EUR 923 million, Scandic is the largest hotel chain in the Nordic countries. We want to be more than just a hotel – Scandic is a place where people meet, work and get inspired.
