September 30, 2014 | 09:09 CET | Categories: General press releases | Non regulatory

Nordic hotel chain Scandic’s Accessibility Director, Magnus Berglund, has been shortlisted for the European Diversity Awards in the category “Hero of the year”. The awards ceremony takes place in London on 2 October.

The European Diversity Awards are known as the “Oscars of diversity” and recognize and celebrate those organisations and individuals that have shown innovation, creativity and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion during 2014.

This year, Scandic’s Accessibility Director, Magnus Berglund is one of seven people shortlisted for “Hero of the year”. The jury consists of 16 members with different roles and work areas, and they have made the nomination on the following grounds:

“Scandic Hotels puts sustainability at the heart of its business, however, with Magnus as a key driver and ambassador for accessibility, Scandic also puts the needs of all guests firmly at the centre of its business model. Scandic has built a programme around accessibility which includes the buildings, fixtures, fittings, furniture, design, training of its staff, menus, conference and meeting facilities, information and reservation services etc. to ensure that guests with disabilities or other access requirements enjoy a pleasant and trouble-free stay. He is a tireless and selfless ambassador for accessibility, sharing his achievements freely with others interested in doing more to improve accessibility and inclusion within the tourism sector.”

– I am extremely honoured to be on the shortlist for this award, says Magnus Berglund, Accessibility Director at Scandic.

Scandic has been working to increase accessibility every day since 2003 when Magnus Berglund was appointed as Accessibility Director. Over the past few years his work has been recognised in the international media and Scandic has received a number of awards for its work on accessibility.

– We are delighted to see Magnus gain recognition as a hero of the year in this award. This shows that the work that Scandic and Magnus have put in over the years is gaining attention worldwide. It’s something that we are very proud of and we will continue to look into how to improve the stays of our guests with special needs even more, says President & CEO of Scandic Frank Fiskers.
