Scandic launches mobile hotel rooms available anywhere

In an effort to bring innovation to the hotel industry and offer unique solutions for guests, the Nordic hotel chain Scandic is launching a mobile hotel – Scandic To Go – available at any location a guest desires. Scandic To Go holds the same high standards as Scandic’s newly refurbished and designed hotels, equipped with all the amenities expected for a pleasant hotel stay. With Scandic To Go, Scandic wishes to entice people who are looking for a unique hotel experience in a different environment.

Choosing a hotel usually comes after choosing a location. This is about to change as Scandic, the Northern Europe’s largest hotel chain with 230 hotels, is launching a new mobile hotel category, Scandic To Go, where guests can book their hotel in any location in the Nordic region. Scandic To Go consists of two mobile hotel rooms, both 18 sqm, with an attached terrace. The rooms are equipped with two 90 cm beds, a small seating area and all kinds of amenities such as TV, free wifi and air conditioning, as well as a fully equipped bathroom – all in line with the hotel chain’s other, newly renovated hotels.

“With Scandic To Go, we hope to create a curiosity and sense of what Scandic is today – an innovative hotel chain which is constantly looking for new ways to develop the range and improve the customer experience,” says Johan Michelson, VP Brand & Marketing at Scandic.

In 2013,18,8 million foreign tourists from around the world visited Sweden and the amount of overnights spent increased with 1,4 percent with a peak during the summer months of June, July and August*. Popular locations to visit for tourists, such as the archipelago islands outside of Stockholm, the Norwegian fjords or beaches on Gotland can often be situated far away from hotels, until now.

“We see a strong trend that people are looking for different experiences, something that is unique and tailor made. With a modern, mobile and fully equipped hotel which can be booked anywhere a guest wishes, we hope to attract guests from abroad who want to experience the Nordic countries in a different way, as well as all those looking for that little extra for a truly memorable experience,” says Johan Michelson.

The price will be 2500 SEK per night for up to four people.

The hotel room is 18 sqm and has a private bathroom with shower and a terrace. To Go rooms have two 90 cm beds, hardwood floors with plush carpet from Kasthall, adjustable desk and a small seating area. The walls are papered with a uniquely designed wallpaper that interacts with the room’s color scheme. The room also has specially designed storage for clothes and gadgets. All windows have blackout curtains and there is ceiling, floor and bedside lighting. The room has a TV, hairdryer, safe, air conditioning, iron and ironing board, as well as free wifi. As you would also find in every Scandic hotel, a coffee and tea maker, mini bar, bathrobes and shower and skin care products from Face Stockholm are all included to create a comfortable and relaxing stay.
